Tap Into a Strategy of Abundance (is Your Mindset Holding You Back?)
s as big of a factor in your business success as anything else that you are doing to grow your company. Every successful person will agree. Unfortunately, I work with a number of clients who have what I call a “scarcity mentality.” This is an underlying belief system that is undermining your success. I encourage you to start to examine your own beliefs about success and financial freedom. Here are some scarcity beliefs that may be holding you back:
** I am scared of not having enough business or income.
** I think people might take advantage of me.
** I can’t charge very much because I won’t get business.
** I don’t have enough customers.
** Marketing my business too much is “bad” or “pushy.”
** I have to struggle because I work for myself.
** There isn’t enough business to go around for my competitors and me.
** Money doesn’t grow on trees (meaning it’s hard to come by).
** You have to work really, really hard to be successful.
** I’ll never be successful in growing my business.
Do any of these statements sound familiar to you?
Every time you have a thought like the ones above, there is a feeling that goes with it that affects your brain, body, and actions. The feeling might be depression, fear, stress, or anxiety. These feelings that go with the thought can bring up even more thoughts, which in turn lead to more feelings until we feel hopeless and overwhelmed. It is a downward spiral that is based on fear – not reality. And yet, it is so easy for many of us to work ourselves into this negative thought frenzy.
When you are in a constricted, oppressed state like this, it works against your creative, expansive, attractive energy that allows business and money to flow effortlessly to you. Every time you have thoughts of scarcity, they prevent you from attracting the very things you want – success, ease, and joy in your business and your life. When you are mired in a scarcity mentality, you cannot see opportunities and you radiate an energy of despair that your prospects can sense. People are attracted to success and they are repelled by scarcity. Your belief system makes itself apparent in the things you say, the choices you make, and the way you interact with people.
Your scarcity mentality is deeply rooted in you by familial conditioning. We learn these thought patterns from our parents, grandparents, peers, and other family members. You were probably conditioned with the same scarcity mentality that’s passed down from one generation to the next. Think about conversations you remember hearing about money while you were growing up. Think about the beliefs you have now. Do you remember the very same thoughts in your head being said by your parents or other family members when you were young?
The good news is you have the power to change your habits, thought patterns, and actions. You can shift your scarcity mentality to one of ongoing abundance. A successful and thriving company leader lives by the following statements: “I am a remarkable leader of a powerful business. I am in charge of my success. I choose the customers I work with. I deserve to get paid for my value. I enjoy limitless opportunities flowing my way.”
One easy way to accelerate your success and quickly move your thoughts and feelings into the abundance state is to acknowledge the customers, sales, and opportunities you are enjoying right now. Also, be grateful for all of the new opportunities that are flowing toward you. The more gratitude you express, the less room there is for scarcity thinking. It shifts your mindset into one of ongoing attraction.
Another powerful way to shift your mindset is cultivate an attitude of abundant giving. There are many opportunities to give things away to our prospects and clients. This can include no-cost teleseminars, articles, thank-you cards, gift cards, and reports. To clarify, I am not saying that you should give away your core services or products. In fact, I urge you to avoid doing this because it diminishes your value. In contrast, you should charge a high price for your expertise and you deserve to be paid well.
There is a huge opportunity to give away samples of your expertise and special “extras.” These will leave people wanting more of you. In doing this, you differentiate yourself from your competitors and you position your business as one that is operating from a place of abundance. This is very attractive to other people because it SHOWS people the value of your services. An abundant giving strategy builds the value you provide your clients, reinforces your expertise, and nurtures the long-term relationships you have with your clients.
Maven Action Tip: Answer these questions to get at the root of some of your mindset and money beliefs: What are some of the beliefs that you have about money? Which beliefs are sabotaging you in your business? How do these beliefs make you feel? How can you shift scarcity beliefs into an abundant mindset? List all of the things that you are grateful for in your business right now.

What makes people wealthy? How have they attained such mastery of their craft? What makes them exhibit such flawless excellence?
Yes, it’s their knowledge and experience, but that is the effect. What is the cause that started them thinking powerfully in the first place?
Simply, it’s the way they think. It’s their mindset. Today I want to talk about the mindset between the rich and the poor. You see, the poor work for money. The rich make money work for them. Literally translated, the poor work to gain money in exchange for their services, to pay for bills and all the other expenses. The rich use money to earn money by investing and/or going into business. They employ the services of other people so they do not necessarily have to be physically present to maintain their business. This gives them more free time to engage in other moneymaking ventures. In the case of Internet Marketing, automation replaces labor. The poor think that the love of money is the root of all evil and that is why they choose to remain poor. The rich think that the lack of money is the root of all evil. They look at the places where crime is rampant, and what they see is a lack of money.
The rich and the poor view the world in diametrically opposite ways!
Say for example, two persons are looking at a yacht, admiring it. The person who chooses to remain poor would say: “I can’t afford to buy a yacht.” The person who chooses to find ways to create wealth would say: “What can I do to own a yacht?” The thinking process of the poor on how to make money is automatically shut down. The rich think about how they can make money, so that they can afford to buy whatever they desire. The poor advise their children to study hard so that the children can find a good company to work for when schooling is finished. The rich advise their children to study hard so that their children can build a good company or find a good company to buy. The excuse of the poor is that they are supporting their families, so expenses are high. The motivation of the rich is that they are supporting their families and need to earn more. A lot of people cringe when it comes to taking risk about money especially the poor. The rich will find ways to control and manage this risk. On the issue of reaching retirement age, the poor depend on a company or the government taking care of their needs or pension. The rich prefer financial self-reliance. The poor can afford to save a few dollars. The rich can afford to make investments to increase their wealth. The poor compose impressive resumes to find good jobs. The rich come up with dynamic business plans to create jobs for others. The poor say that money does not interest them. The rich find ways to use money to make life more interesting. We can see that there are lots of differences in thinking attitudes between the poor and the rich. Often times, the directions of thought are opposite each other. How the mind works determines the person. It is unfortunate though that more people choose the easier way to think, which is why the higher percentage of people are in the poor and middle class. But there is always the chance to improve as long as you are willing. Let me emphasize though that a willing mind to improve oneself, to elevate oneself from being poor to being wealthy, is not enough and will not materialize if it is not coupled with action, the final and most important determinant to turn a poor person into a rich one. Not just any action but intelligent, decisive, fearless action. Make it happen in 2006!

8 Steps to Stay Abundant During Hard Times

There’s more than enough money in the world to get you through hard times. That’s the first thing to keep in mind during financial troubles. I went through some tough conditions several times in my life and I’m still amazed at how I got through them. I’ve put together some tips you could use to get you moving forward again.
1. OPERATE FROM THE MINDSET OF ABUNDANCE. This is the best way to set the stage on staying abundant amidst financial crisis. The Abundant Mindset begins by believing that there is more than enough supply of anything and everything for anyone and everyone at anytime, every time.
2. PROCEED BY MAKING A CHECKLIST OF WHAT YOU NEED TO GET YOU THROUGH THE WEEK AND PRIORITIZE. Be specific when you identify the items and include the day you need it the most (e.g. income generating activity by next week, five hundred dollars for electricity by Friday and the like). You may put them in columns for easy reading.
3. FOLLOW IT UP WITH A LIST OF PEOPLE WHO COULD HELP YOU ACCESS THE SPECIFIC ITEMS YOU NEED. The best people who could help you are members of your family and close friends. Include them in the list for they are blessings provided for you. If you know people who may have direct contact with influential individuals whose help you need then include them in the list as well.
4. EXPRESS THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR SITUATION. Communicate with the people on the list and tell them about your present condition. It may not be an easy task for it requires you to be vulnerable. Do it anyway, for the process in itself helps you heal whatever wounds you may have incurred in the recent past. In my case, it healed a broken relationship with a family member. No matter how uncomfortable it may be, the fact remains that we do need the wisdom and resources of others to help us succeed in life. I’m sure you’ve helped others before and maybe these same people are just waiting for an opportunity to help you in return. Give them that chance.
5. BE OPEN AND WILLING TO TAKE ON NEW WAYS OF GETTING THINGS DONE. Accept whatever these family members or friends can offer. If they can give advice then accept the advice willingly and consider them in your decision making. If they offer more than you expected then by all means receive it with gladness and joy. Dr. Deepak Chopra has said “Receiving is as necessary as giving. To graciously receive is an expression of the dignity of giving”. Be willing to take the necessary actions that go along with the assistance they offer you. If it need be that you learn a new skill or do something beyond your comfort zone then take the challenge with pride. Approach the task as one that brings hope and faith.
6. VIEW EVERY ACTIVITY AS ONE FILLED WITH OPPORTUNITY AND VALUABLE LESSONS. Remember that the power to recreate the self anew comes as more knowledge and wisdom is gained through experience. Notice the abundance of knowledge and skills presented to you with every act you decide to take. The process then becomes an exciting adventure of personal growth and maybe even professional growth.
7. BE GRATEFUL EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. Stay connected to the Source of all abundance by having a grateful heart and more of that which you appreciate will come into your life. Moving with the attitude of gratitude will surely bring in more opportunities to develop, increase, grow and bear fruit.
8. KNOW THAT ALL IS WELL IN LOVE. You are an individual with the power to turn your life around for it is inherent in man to create a better life for himself and his family to express love.
