Rich Dad Mentality V. Poor Dad Mentality

This is the second in a series of articles based on the groundbreaking best-seller “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” written by Robert Kiyosaki. As stated in the first article, the book compares the mindset of Kiyosaki’s father—who held several degrees and an important position in the government, but struggled financially–, with the mindset of his best friend’s father—who never even finished high school but left his son a financial empire. In his book, Kiyosaki explains that the mindset held by each of these two men, his “poor dad” and his “rich dad”, was largely responsible for each man’s financial destiny.

The following quote by T. Harv Eker, author of “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”, refers to the concept of a rich person’s mindset: “Rich people have a way of thinking that is different from poor and middle class people. They think differently about money, wealth, themselves, other people, and life.” Kiyosaki expounds this same principle in “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”.

Below you will find seven mayor differences between the “poor dad” and the “rich dad” mentality:

1. The “poor dad” mentality states that your wealth depends on your family of origin. That is, to be rich you have to be born rich. “Rich dad” espoused the view that being rich or poor is something that you learn. You can learn to think in ways that will support you, and you can raise your financial IQ by reading books on finance, talking to financially successful people, and attending seminars and lectures. When you have the right belief system and the necessary knowledge on how to create, build, and protect wealth, you will become rich even if you were not born into a wealthy family.

2. “Rich dad” taught Kiyosaki that he should get a job to learn and to acquire the necessary skills so that he could go on to start his own business. “Poor dad” saw his job as his source of income for life. While “rich dad” taught Kiyosaki to strive to become financially independent, “poor dad” taught him to depend on his employer for his financial well being.

3. When faced with an opportunity, “rich dad” would ask himself: “How can I afford this?” This forced his mind to think and to come up with creative solutions to be able to take advantage of the opportunity that had presented itself. Instead, when presented with an opportunity, “poor dad” would dismiss it by saying: “It’s too bad I can’t afford this.”

4. While “poor dad” stressed scholastic education, “rich dad” always stressed financial education.

5. For “rich dad” the main cause of poverty or financial struggle was self-inflicted fear and ignorance. “Poor dad” blamed the economy and the job market. That is, “rich dad” always took responsibility for himself and felt that he created his circumstances, while “poor dad” often felt like a victim of the outside world.

6. As for risk taking, “rich dad” taught Kiyosaki to learn to manage risk. “Poor dad” taught him that when it came to money, risk was something that should be avoided and to always play it safe.

7. “Rich dad” taught Kiyosaki that failing was simply part of the process and that he should learn from his mistakes and move on. “Poor dad” attached great stigma to failure and was therefore afraid of making mistakes.

Study the seven examples above in order to begin to develop a clear concept of the difference between a rich and a poor mindset. You can find out more on how rich people think by reading books such as those found in the “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” series and by talking to people who have succeeded financially.

Are you rich?

Do you think you have got enough money to justify your efforts?

If your answer is NO then ask your self “Why Not?”

Don’t worry.

Today you will get the answer. The answer is again a question.

Do you think like a Rich Man?

Being Rich is not about having huge money, but being able to think like a Rich.

A Cashier in Bank handles more money in a month than a Rich Man can handle in lifetime. But Cashier is Not Rich. Not because he does not own than money but because he cannot think like a Rich Man.

Rich man thinks differently from poor man. He thinks differently about life, money, wealth, relationships, future, past etc. In short every thing.

This Different Style of thinking makes him different from the crowd. In Next few minutes you will learn how to think like a Rich.

Lets get in to the brain of Rich Man

1. Rich Man believes He Can Create His World – Poor Man waits for nature to create world for him. He waits, waits & waits. Till he realizes that nothing is going to happen now. On the contrary Rich Man never expects any external factor ever to help him out of situation. He just wakes up in the morning thinking no one on the earth is going to help him. He has to create his own World & He can create his own World.

2. Money Works For Rich Man – Poor man works for money, while money works for Rich Man. Rich Man creates assets for him self like Investment, Factory, Property, Stocks, Employees. These assets works for him while Rich Man can afford to rest.

3. Rich Man doesn’t get trapped in Short Term Issues – Rich man gives less importance to short term issues like paying bills as compare to creating assets for long term. Poor man spends nearly all his hours on solving short term issues. Sad thing is that short term issues like paying bills never ends. Oh I am sorry they ends but with the end of life.

4. Rich Man doesn’t give much importance to problems – Rich Man keeps his eyes on Target while poor man keeps his eyes on problems. Before starting any thing Poor man tries to predict the problems & difficulties he may have to face while achieving the target. On the contrary Rich man assumes that there will be some problem in the process & keeps concentrating on the target.

5. Rich Man catches Opportunities in flash – Even on holiday vacation trip or on morning walk Rich Man keeps his eyes open to catch any opportunity. While Poor man worries about potential risk in the working hours that he may have to counter.

Start Thinking like Rich & You will soon be Rich.

Manifesting Abundance

People have always perceived money, wealth, abundance or prosperity to be scarce. By default, we have come to accept that and live like that in our everyday reality. We have been raised with our parents arguing about money or the lack of resources, we had to scrimp because there is little money, and we have heard a great deal about what the “want” of money can lead people to do.

It is exactly that “want” that leaves people wanting for more. The Law of Attraction or manifesting principle states that “you attract the things that your mind or thoughts focused on”. By this law, your “wanting” of money or abundance makes you want it more, but you are not attracting or creating it at all. All you will succeed in “wanting” is creating more of the same feeling.

Now this law is a natural law. It is part and parcel of the workings of the universe and therefore it will always apply to you whether you want what you are manifesting or not. This is not new and I am sure you’ve heard about all these before. If you haven’t heard of this, you might have applied this before albeit unconsciously.

As I have said, money or abundance is scarce in our reality because we have accepted it as such by witnessing hardships & financial problems over the years. This way of thinking is already like a habit. Habits are already automatic actions and unconsciously done. However, you can use the manifesting principle cited above to consciously attract abundance to you in the same you have unconsciously attracted scarcity. Just turn it around!

Yes it is easily said than done, but it can definitely be done. Overturning this “pauper mindset” as I call it is not just going to take a day or two. Years of living with it has ingrained it into our subconscious. It is going to take a strong & determined will power to overcome its hold in your psyche. The single most important step you can do right now is to make a firm a decision to ACCEPT THE ABUNDANCE THAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS. You can say it out loud right now (just don’t let anybody hear you, they might think you’ve gone over the edge!). Say, “I ACCEPT THE ABUNDANCE THAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE!” If this is the first time you have done it, it is going to sound embarrassing. Just repeat the affirmation as many times as you can. Say it out loud and start with pretending that you really believe it.

Here are other things you should try:

1. Aside from saying out loud your affirmation, write it down, draw it, make a symbol of it and carry it around. Be specific. Be positive.

2. Visualize money in your hands or in your wallet as if you are holding it already.

3. Do meditation & self-hypnosis. During hypnosis, the mind which is always full of haphazard & clashing thoughts is tamed down. During this time, it becomes more receptive to the ideas, like your affirmations, that you introduce to it.

4. Pretend as if there truly is abundance in your life right now. No, I am not saying you have to live beyond your means or spend unnecessarily. Start by giving thanks for whatever blessings you have right now, including the ones you take for granted because it is always there, like air or the beauty in nature. Make a habit of giving thanks for the smallest goodness or kindness you have received.

5. Make a habit of reading motivational books daily.

6. Act!

7. Even if you have successfully manifest abundance, continue affirming, meditating and reading motivational books.
